Thredbo
Thredbo is one of Australia’s premier skiing and snowboarding destinations. It is located deep in the Snowy Mountains and is the home of Australia’s longest ski run and highest vertical drop. It is well serviced with multiple chair lifts and ski tows and the range of terrain will suit the standards of any skier. Thredbo is unique by Australian standards with the accommodation village at the base of the mountain and the largest chairlift operating from the center of the village. During the best seasons skiing is possible from the top of the mountain right down to the village. During poorer seasons, snow cannons provide an excellent coverage on the upper slopes, but in any event, there will always be plenty of skiable runs to keep you going right through your holidays.
Thredbo is accessible by car with a sealed highway right to the village. It is not far from Jindabyne which also serves as an accommodation center for skiers visiting Thredbo and the other major ski resorts in the region like Perisher Valley. It is about six hours drive from Sydney and most international visitors arrive here and then take the snow bus or hire a vehicle for the drive to Thredbo. The Village area at Thredbo has a fantastic resort style atmosphere with excellent accommodation of all standards, set in a village atmosphere surrounded by shopping arcades, restaurants, night clubs and cafes. The après ski scene at Thredbo is world renowned. The region surrounding Thredbo is part of the Mt Kosciuszko National Park and the wildlife in the region is sensational. There are tall forests that are home to a multitude of bird species, mammals like Wombats, Quolls, Wallabies and Koala as well as Platypus and trout in the streams and lakes.
Thredbo is one of Australia’s premier skiing resorts and it can be home to the well heeled members of the community. It has a position, high on the social calendar, especially during the winter months.
