Queensland Island Resorts
The island resorts in the Australian state of Queensland are some of the best in the South Pacific Ocean region. Some are actually located right on the Great Barrier Reef itself, some enjoy remote and pristine locations and some are in picturesque island groups close to the mainland of Australia. No matter what kind of island resort takes your fancy, you are bound to find a perfect one somewhere just off the Queensland coastline.
There are three major regions where island resorts can be found in Queensland waters. In the tropical north of the state, there is enormous variety to choose from. Lizard Island attracts tourists and divers from everywhere to share its pristine and remote location where it is surrounded by some of the best fishing and diving in Australia. Green Island is a coral cay and sits directly on top of the Great Barrier Reef and is very close to Cairns. It is a great destination for a Great Barrier Reef day tour. Dunk Island lies south of Cairns and right next door to Bedarra Island. Dunk Island is a magnificent tropical island with dozens of family holiday activities and plenty of new accommodation after cyclone Larry almost destroyed the resort in March of 2007. Bedarra Island and Orpheus Island both cater to small numbers of guests and sit at the higher end of the market where privacy and quality are highly prized. Magnetic Island is different again and is a coastal island that also contains some of the suburbs of Townsville.

The Whitsunday Island resorts are possibly the most popular of all of the Queensland Islands. This group of islands lies in the central Queensland coastal region and consists of around 74 magnificent islands that make up one of the most picturesque regions anywhere in Australia. Many of these island resorts have grown over generations and have become one of Australia’s most popular holidays and vacation destinations. Hamilton island resort is the largest and most complete of all of Queensland’s island destinations. From a full blown domestic airport, world standard golf course, marina, charter boats, fantastic accommodation and plenty of restaurants to choose from, Hamilton Island is like a holiday town, set on a beautiful island. Hayman Island also fits into the luxury category and has held a five star rating for many years. It is constantly being upgraded and improved. New beachside villas were constructed in 2010. Daydream Island, Long Island and Brampton Island all have resorts that provide that something different, that many tourists are looking for.
In the southern Great Barrier Reef waters there are three great choices in island resorts that are located right on the reef itself on tiny coral cays, that come complete with nesting sea birds and sea turtle rookeries. They are Heron Island, Wilson Island and Lady Elliot Island which is the southern most island on the Great Barrier Reef. Queensland is also home to a number of enormous sand islands that are home to pristine fresh water lakes and magnificent rainforests. Fraser Island is world heritage listed and the world’s largest sand island. Its lakes and rainforests are breathtaking and Moreton Island and Stradbroke Island which lie close to Brisbane provide fantastic beaches, beautiful scenery and great fishing.
The Queensland islands are the ideal place for a relaxing holiday vacation.
